Dear B. Shilliday,

Thank you for contacting the Verizon eCenter, where we value you as a Verizon Encore customer. My name is Jana, and I will be handling your request today.

This message is in response to your email dated May 11, 2006 regarding your objection to Verizon providing information to our government about your account.

We appreciate that the USA Today article and other reports about the possibility that the NSA is able to analyze local call data records is causing concern. Please be assured that Verizon places the highest value on protecting the privacy of our customers.

Anything to do with the NSA is of course highly classified, so we can not comment on whether or not the news article causing concern is even accurate. But we can say that, to the extent that we cooperate with government authorities, we are confident that we are complying with all applicable statutes. We appreciate the continuing opportunity to provide you with service.

Thank you for using Verizon. We appreciate your business.

Sincerely,
Jana
Verizon eCenter

P.S. Your bill is late you commie freak.

This must be for your cell phone? Don't have one, but I know Working Assets is a socially-conscious phone company (but is expensive as all hell). Don't know if they have cell service.

Good for you for writing this. Tell 'em you're a shareholder and they'll go apepoop.

Have a great weekend!

nope I don't want a cell. I do have optical cable modem with them though, and regular phone. have a good weekend too.

Seems if the piece in USA Today wasn't accurate, they would want you to know that. Don't cha think?

Hopefully they are getting a lot of calls and letters like that.

I envision an new ad campaign "We Won't Turn You Over To The Government (unless they ask real nice)"

isn't it great we now have something going on that everybody knows is going on but can't say is going on but apologize for if it is going on but of course can't say if it is?

all i did (at&t bought out sbc. that is who i originally had) was write a little somethin' somethin' on the comments section of my check. but i figure the person that is going to deposit that check on behalf of at&t is in the same position that i am

right on loc ... puttin' your mouth and your money together here ...

I am going to write them today...thanks Brad- good idea...time for a Dear Jana letter...I wish I had QWEST here...

I would use qwest too, but Verizon has fiber optiv to my house so I get my regular phone and broadband with them. noone else has internet this fast.

If everyone who claimed to be outraged with Verizon actually dropped or downgraded service, then Verizon would possibly change.

As long as we make excuses why we must continue to give Verizon our money they'll be saying f-you all the way to the bank. We become enablers for the very power structure we claim to hate.

I was gonna switch our cells to Verizon. . .maybe we'll stick with T-Mobile's shitty coverage instead.

thanks for the comments everyone.. makes you think what companies we can trust. hopefully there will always be those that stand up for their customers.

Wow... Jana is such a swell kid. I'm glad she replied, and not some ol' fuddy duddy.

{sighhh}
